Samarinda, A Batik Bouquet
BRAND PARTNER: Gypsied
At first glance, this piece astounds us with the flora and fauna of the archipelago. Upon closer inspection, it reveals the classic Javanese piece known as Buket Pepakan (A Complete Bouquet). Not just flowers and vines, several illustrations depict the wings of a peacock — symbols of poise and confidence.
Interestingly, parts of the sekar jagad motif are visible, with each section filled with variations of the truntum — a notable ancient motif for love and persistence. This piece is made for the times and can be intepreted in many ways. We'd like to believe this piece is a reminder to have faith in our ability to achieve our dreams against all odds.
Time taken to make: 2 months.
With a deep indigo, almost black background and shades of gold, these natural colours are traces of the leaves, barks and roots of the archipelago.
